President Cyril Ramaphosa says Tourism is the New Gold. “It is a sector that is thriving and that has
tremendous potential for further growth and for the creation of jobs. Its immense social and economic
value, continues to improve the lives of millions of people in South Africa, and on the African continent.”
Travel and tourism in South Africa contributed 1.5 million jobs and R425.8bn to the economy in 2018,
representing 8.6% of all economic activity in the country and making SA the largest tourism economy in
Africa. The tourism sector has enormous potential for the promotional product industry.
